Since the birds in this country are not used to much snow and ice, the government has asked us to feed them. I think this is probably the hardest winter for them in many years. It’s freezing a lot and almost every week there is snow. I have put some seed containers in the tree in front of our house and our neighbour hanged some apples in it as well. It gave me the chance to make these great pictures. I hope any of you can tell me the name of the first bird, because I don’t have a clue:-)

Update: It’s a "Kramsvogel", at least that’s the dutch word for it. Don’t know the english translation.

Omdat de vogels in ons land niet veel sneeuw en ijs gewend zijn, heeft de overheid ons gevraagd ze bij te voederen. Ik denk dat het één van de strengste winters in de afgelopen tijd. Het vriest vaak en bijna iedere week sneeuwt het wel. Ik heb wat zaadcontainers in de boom voor het huis gehangen en de buurvrouw heeft er wat appels ingedaan. Ik kreeg hierdoor de kans om deze mooie foto’s te maken. Ik hoop dat één van jullie me de naam van de vogel op de eerste foto kan vertellen, want ik heb geen idee:-)

Update: Het is een "Kramsvogel", althans, dat is de Nederlandse naam, ik ken de engelse vertaling niet.

For the fifth year in a row we went to Pernes-les-Fontaines in France to stay for our summer vacation. It wat very hot this year, sometimes up to 38 degrees celsius (100,4 Fahrenheit) in the shadow. A litle bit too hot for me. Pernes-les-Fontaines is a beautiful ancient city with lots of the old fountains and city walls. A beautifull place to spend your vacation.

Voor het vijfde jaar achter elkaar zijn we naar Pernes-les-Fontaines in Frankrijk gegaan om daar de zomervakantie door te brengen. Het was dit jaar erg heet, soms tot wel 38 graden celsius (100,4 Fahrenheit) in de schaduw. Een beetje te heet voor mij. Pernes-les-Fontaines is een prachtige oude stad met veel oude fonteinen en stadsmuren. Een prachtige plek om je vakantie door te brengen.

POTERIE

During our vacation we always make some roadtrips to other cities in the area or just to go sight seeing. Almost every year I have an excuse to go to the pottery in Crestet to buy something I "need". The colours of the pots and pans are smashing.

Tijdens onze vakantie maken we diverse tochten naar andere plaatsen in de omgeving of we bekijken de omgeving. Bijna ieder jaar heb ik wel een excuus om naar de poterie in Crestet te gaan om iets te kopen wat ik "nodig" heb. De kleuren van de potten en pannen zijn uitzonderlijk mooi.

MONT VENTOUX

The pottery is just around the corner of the Mont Ventoux, a famous mountain in France. So whenever it’s hot, we go up there because the temperture is at least 10 degrees celsius lower then down under. You have a great view at the top and it’s a famous mountain by all bikers.

De poterie is in de buurt van de Mont Ventoux, een beroemde berg in Frankrijk. Wanneer het warm is gaan we daarheen omdat de temperatuur er tenminste 10 graden lager is den beneden. Je heb een prachtig uitzicht op de top en de berg is bekend bij iedere wielrenner.

FOLKLORIES IN PERNES

In the summertime the community of Pernes-les-Fontaines organizes all kinds of folkloric events for the people who visit their town. Each year they organize several performances of folkloristic dance groups. The pictues below are with dancers from Tahiti.

In de zomer organiseert de gemeente Pernes-les-Fontaines allerlei folkloristische avonden voor de vakantiegangers. Ieder jaar zorgen ze voor verschillende optredens van folkloristsiche dansgroepen.  De foto’s hieronder zijn van de dansers van Tahiti.

LES BAUX

On advise of a collegue of my husband we visited the city Les Baux. Another great old city with a ruine of a castle on top of the mountain. In the city itself of course lots of souvenir shops but also a beautiful chapel, museum with wall paintings and a museum with dolls in traditional costums. All free entry. To visit the ruin you have to pay a small amount of 7 euro’s. The streets are small and slippery, so if you go and visit it, make sure you are wearing proper walking shoes.

Op advies van een collega van mijn echtgenoot bezochten we de plaats Les Baux. Een prachtige oude stad met een ruïne op de top van de berg. In het stadje natuurlijk heel veel souvenierwinkels maar een een prachtig kapelletje, een museum met muurschilderingen en een museum met poppen in traditionele kostuums. Allemaal gratis te bezoeken. Voor een bezoekje aan het kasteel betaal je 7 euro. De straten zijn er smal en glad, dus als je het gaat bezoeken, zorg dan voor stevige wandelschoenen.

TOUR DE FRANCE

During our stay we had the "luck" of being able to see a stage of the Tour de France when the bikers had to bike up to the Mont Ventoux. I’m not a fan of the tour, but since we where nearby we thought we might as well have a look. So we picknicked along side the road and waited for about 5 houres for the bikers to pas us by. Before they came all the sponsers of the tour drove by throwing all kinds of free stuff in the audience. Some of them had build beautiful "cars".

Tijdens onze vakantie hadden we het "geluk" om een etappe van de Tour de France te kunnen bekijken toen de wielrijders de Mont Ventoux op moesten. Ik ben niet echt een fan van de tour, maar omdat we zo dichtbij waren vonden we dat we toch maar moesten gaan kijken. We hebben gepicknickt langs de kant van de weg en 5 uur gewacht tot de wielrenners voorbij kwamen. Daarvoor kwamen de sponsors voorbij die allerlei gratis dingen het publiek ingooiden. Sommigen hadden prachtige "auto’s" gemaakt.

PONT DU GARD

In about an hours drive from Pernes you can visit the old "Pont du Gard". A very ancient aquaduct which was build many centuries ago. And when you are tired of looking at it, just take a dive in the river.

Op ongeveer een uur rijden van Pernes ligt de de oude "Pont du Gard". Een heel oud aquaduct die vele eeuwen geleden gebouwd is. En als je het zat bent om er naar te kijken, neem dan een duik in de rivier.

On june 27, 2009 we went to visit our friends in Alkmaar. They live close to a beautiful park with all kinds of stuf for children to play with. They also made a swamp-like area and that’s why you think you are in the countryside instead of the city. I think all cities should make parks like that. Of course I made several pictures of Joost and Tanaquil.

Op 27 juni 2009 zijn we op bezoek geweest bij vrienden van ons in Alkmaar. Zij wonen dichtbij een prachtig park met allemaal leuke speeltoestellen voor kinderen in allerlei leeftijdscategoriën. Er is een moerasgedeelte aangelegd, waardoor je je ook gelijk in de natuur waant. Een prachtig park waar veel gemeenten een voorbeeld aan zouden kunnen nemen. Natuurlijk heb ik weer de nodige foto’s gemaakt van Joost en Tanaquil.

During our trip to the outlet store in Lelystad we saw those cute little swans who were laying alongside the road. The father and mother where both there and at one point a cat came along to look at them, but the father protected them very well.

Tijdens onze reis naar de outletwinkel in Lelystad zagen we deze leuke kleine zwaantjes langs de kant van de weg liggen. De vader en moeder waren er ook en toen op enig moment een kat kwam kijken werden ze door hun vader goed beschermd.

On a shopping trip to the outlet store Bataviastad in Lelystad we made a little detour to the harbour. I love the scene with the ships, but also the lining of the second picture with the dock.

Tijdens een winkeltripje naar de outlet Bataviastad in Leylstad zijn we even omgereden naar de haven. Ik vind de scene met de schepen erg mooi, maar ook de belijning in de tweede foto van de steiger.

Since march this year we have a beautiful babygirl next door. When we babysit her, we take lots of pictures. We fell totally in love with her.

Sinds maart dit jaar hebben we een prachtig nieuw buurmeisje. Wanneer we op haar passen maken we heel veel foto’s. We zijn helemaal dol op haar.

The cat from our neighbours is always following us around and if he gets the chance he will come inside as well. He wasn’t that easy to photograph, always running and walking around, but finally he layed down so I could take a few pictures of him.

De poes van onze buren volgt ons overal en als hij de kans krijgt glipt hij naar binnen. Hij was niet makkelijk te fotograferen, altijd rondlopen or rennen, maar uiteindelijk ging hij liggen en kon ik een paar mooie foto’s van hem maken.

One of the first pictures I made with my new camera is this one. Lucky for me a bee came by which made the picture look more interesting.

Eén van de eerste foto’s die ik maakte met mijn nieuwe camera is deze. Gelukkig kwam er een bij voorbij waardoor de foto net iets interessanter is.

On this weblog you will find pictures made with my new DSLR camera, the Canon EOS 500D with a Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. I have read several reviews on http://cameralabs.com, which is a very usefull site if you want to buy a new camera, before I made my choice for this camera. Since making pictures with a DSLR is new to me, I have a lot to learn about the camera so the pictures won’t be that great in the beginning but I really like to share them with family and friends. Have fun watching them.

Ik heb verschillende recensies gelezen op http://cameralabs.com, wat een heel nuttige site is als je een nieuwe camera wilt kopen, voordat ik deze camera koos. Omdat het maken van foto’s met een DSLR nieuw voor mij is en ik nog veel moet leren over deze camera zullen de foto’s in eerste instantie misschien niet indrukwekkend zijn, maar ik zil ze toch graag met familie en vrienden delen. Veel plezier met het bekijken van de foto’s.
